Thanks for visting my website. My name is David Zemens and I am a member of the Rochester (Michigan) city council. I was elected in November 2009 and my term ends in November 2013.

Please feel free to contact me about any concerns you have. I also like to hear suggestions about how we can improve city services or reduce costs. My goal is to help improve the city and to make it a better place for everyone.

A Little Bit About Me

dwz_200x233You can read a little bit more detail about my background on this page, The one thing you won’t see in my background is anything that makes me look like a politician. I’m not one, and I never will be one. I am a middle class man with sound moral values and outstanding honesty. You will be able to trust me to represent your interests honestly and transparently. You can count on it.

I was employed in Oakland County law enforcement for 28 years. For the last twenty years I worked as a police officer in Rochester. I retired in the fall of 2006 and now spend my time managing my two website design business, Stoney Creek Web Design, LLC, and 1955 Design.

My law enforcement background will prove to be an asset as a council person because such a large part of the city budget is devoted to the police department. I don’t think it’s any secret that the police department had been mismanaged for quite some time, as a 2006 consultant report indicated. I will do my best to see that the city council is more acutely aware of the police operation. I will also work to ensure that safeguards are in place to oversee the police department so that the city can avoid a repeat of the recent past.

Education

Working for 28 years spent as a police officer, police road patrol sergeant and police detective provided me with an education the likes of which I never dreamed of receiving. My more formal education is listed below.

  • Wayne State University – Detroit, Michigan – I spent two years at Wayne State from 1975 to 1977. My emphasized area of study was pre-law and criminal justice.
  • University of Detroit – Detroit, Michigan – From 1973 thru 1975 I attend U of D where I studied the life sciences. At that point in my life I could perform algebraic equations and do qualitative chemical analysis. Those days are over!
  • Edwin Denby High School – Detroit, Michigan – I am a 1973 graduate of Detroit Edwin Denby High School. I received a great education from a school system that was, in its prime, a great educational environment.

I consider my personal strengths to be my honesty, integrity and devotion to my family. Everything else comes in second. I do work hard, smart and efficiently in my endeavors and will promise to do so as a city councilperson as well.
